It’s rare for a title as highly anticipated as Saga to live up to readers expectations. I am happy to report that Saga exceeded my expectatons and left me anxious for more. Brian Vaughn and Fiona Staples delivered a knock out blow with their double sized, fourty-four page, advertisement free first issue. Fans of Brian Vaughn’s work will be happy they jumped on this title from the start. The white cover and white back cover make it hard to find a clean copy. Also I’ve looked at hundreds of issues and haven’t seen one without a small tear in the bottom left corner. I’m anxious to see what the print run on this issue is and encourage speculators to pick up a copy because everyone who enjoys science fiction, fantasy and Brian Vaughn’s work already have picked up this title. I want to remind readers that this is a mature title that has nudity and adult language. That being said, the adult themes are necessary plot devices and were not included without reason or in an attempt to shock readers or appeal to readers puriant interests. I can’t say enough about Vaughn’s layered story and hope that Vaughn’s writing does not overshadow Fiona Staples beautiful artwork. Staples is a star on the rise and has a bright future ahead of her. If you haven’t read Saga, there’s no reason to wait. Pick up a copy now!
