SHIELD continues to enthrall with its relentless assault of intelligent ideas and mind-blowing concepts. Both issues have been densely packed with mythic-sounding gems like the “fountain of forced serenity”, “the son of eternity”, “the undying ones in the immortal city”, and “the night machine”.

Loved the transition into pure text in the middle of this issue – reminiscent of Hickman’s “Nightly News” indie comic with nontraditional storytelling methods.

I’m understanding what this series is about at a meta- level; the big story is intriguing. But, the moment-to-moment narrative gets a tad difficult to follow from time to time. But, by the time you’ve scratched your head and wondered hmm… what’s that supposed to mean? — Hickman’s next idea will ignite your mind while Dustin Weaver’s art drops your jaw.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
