I haven’t been enjoying any of Valient’s current lineup that I’ve tried (Harbinger, X-O Manowar, Archer and Armstrong) so I was pretty much ready to write it off as something I wouldn’t have interest in. Aside from the Goat promotions and the little weely strips on IGN (check those out, funny stuff!!) I don’t know much about Q & W. So I came into these with fresh eyes, and I gotta say I liked what I saw.

The story is pretty much about 2 brothers who have lost touch, who come together after a family loss. They’re very different from each other; Quantum (or Eric I think) is serious, responsible, and mature. Woody is reckless, funny, pretty much carefree. Bradley Cooper would be perfect to play him in a movie.

Anyway, this is all just set-up. No super heroics yet really. We seeing who the characters are and how they get into costume. The best part is the humor, it catches you by surprise and is usually pretty witty. There’s jokes in hear I read then got a few seconds later as it “clicked” in my head, there’s sight gags. Not to oversell it, but humor is a fair part of this book and I enjoyed that. The book is more comedy-drama than a Super-Hero book.

The art didn’t really impress me in anyway. It wasn’t bad but I was so focused on the story I kind of overlooked the art. All I can see if it did the job and it’s sort of sketchy looking. I think it fit the story.

Overall, I liked this. I want to read the next issue. It’s the first Valient’s book I’ve read that I liked. Not to knock it’s other titles but this one was the only one that appealed to me. Looking forward to finding out what the Goat is about…

Story: 4 - Very Good
