Spinning out of The List: Punisher we have FrankenCastle! The concept is simple: take a character who is interesting because he has no powers, lives by his wits and his own code of justice, then make him into a Frankenstien monster. The idea is so wrong that it’s right. An idea that’s so out of left field that it leaves me wondering what’s going to happen next, and that’s a good thing.

This issue was a fluke buy for me. I just happened to pick it up, thumb through it and I laughed at nearly every page. I saw Man-Thing, Morbius, a werewolf and a mummy just to name a few interesting monsters. Rick Remender has taken the Punisher and made him lead the Monster Squad. And you know something? It actually works and works quite well so far.

And let’s give it to Tony Moore, huh? Can this cat draw monsters or can he draw monsters? Moore’s art brings me into comics I would otherwise give a pass. What more can I say other than he makes me smile. He got me to pick up Ghost Rider and now Punisher. His unique almost cartoonesque art style gives this book a surreal b-movie quality that makes the whole story work.

This book makes me confused in all the right ways. How long will this FrankenCastle last? How will and when will he return to normal? I have no clue. But I highly suggest you enjoy the ride while it lasts because this is simply good comics.
