Wow, I will miss this team a lot.
Or maybe I won't have to miss them. Pepper is clearly moving over to Fraction's 'Iron Man' series (can - not - wait). And the door is clearly open for the surviving characters to reappear.
This story was a worthy ending to this excellent, surprisingly fresh and mature, superhero series. The plot may have been hurried a little to cram it into a final issue, but we get the painfully inevitable ending of Henry's arc, where he discovers that the 'perks' of leadership include watching a teammate die, and being forced to kill another in order to save the city. I do wish the necessity for that choice had been set up a little better, and that the visual made it clearer exactly what was happening, but the emotional impact was right on.
The only black mark on this (as well as the previous issue) is that the art was obviously done by several fill-in artists, with widely varying styles. I appreciate that Marvel got it out, but it's really going to suffer in the trade. I keep imagining how great this series would be if all of the art had gotten the time and care of issue 6 (the Namor issue) which Barry Kitson and co. knocked out of the park. I have a fantasy that in a few years, Matt Fraction will be the new Bendis/Johns who is writing half the books and dictating company direction and he'll have enough clout to get an 'Order' omnibus issued with the art the way it should have been.
