Ok, I'm not sure I can ignore the Green Lantern comparisons anymore, now that Ego the Living Mogo has shown up. Worldmind's cold logic and Richard's hot-headed resistance play out much like the Guardians and Hal Jordan dynamic, but that's just on the surface. This story is much more than that. It must be part Star Wars, too, because the entire time I was reading, I kept thinking "I have a bad feeling about this...". Sometimes the course of this book, especially the endings, are a little transparent, but the ride is always fun. Who didn't smile when they turned the page to reveal an impatient Fantastic Four. And where will the ride go next? Will it turn out that there's something to Richard's theory about Worldmind? Or perhaps Worldmind's theories about Richard? It's he said/she said on a cosmic scale! And yet, maybe even five issues ago, I never would have assumed this simple and elegant duality would be at the center of this book. Such is the ride, I suppose. Nothing but old school comics fun here, kids.

I think Abnett and Lanning are having fun with the similarities to the Green Lantern Corps at this point. That joke about the Nova Corps not being so ridiculous as to recruit a planet to be a member, nor having a helmet big enough to fit him, is a clear reference to Mogo. Not that I don’t love Green Lantern too. GL and Nova are respectively probably my favorite books at DC and Marvel right now.
