This issue focuses on a Viking trading ship's Captain, making a bold decision to head out West into the new world. The twists and turns that come with it keep you on edge. Though I've been reading this series for a bit, it seems the stronger issues are the stand alones. The longer storylines that Brian Wood crafts usually have a GREAT start but becomes a little lackluster in the final chapter(s). The single issues stories are of the contrary. This one is a prime example of how he can craft a great story with a gut wrenching conclusion. The art was FANTASTIC. Fiona Staples definitely sets a mood and makes you feel as if you are on the ship in this exploration. Her pacing of the story and her characterizations create a depth to these Vikings. If you are interested in picking up this series, whether it be in trade or single issues, this is a good place to start.
