Man, there is one issue left of this series, and I am having a very
difficult time justifying buying the last part other than just out of a
completion.

I’m trying to think of what in this book was unique or even
just not been done so many times that any thing that might have been
cool about it has been beaten like a donkey that died on the way to
market.

This issue started with yelling. Yelling by bastards. Yelling
yelling yelling. I don’t know if this book has taken exceptionally long
to come out or if it was so forgettable, but I had to go dig out the
last issue to figure out why they’ were yelling. It was some falling
plane or something.

Regardless, yelling.

Then it went into the secret
history of this world which is so old hand from Ellis now, I damn well
fell asleep.

Then we got the reveal of who the villain of the series
is, but my apathy knows no bounds.

The art was that house style that
Avatar has that is the visual equivalent of vomiting after eating 3 lbs
of jelly beans. Messy, colorful and confusing.

I’ve been trying to stop
reading shitty books just for completeness sake, but there is one issue
left so we’ll see if I pick up the last one.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 1 - Poor

  1. Yeah, I question your taste in art if you give this a 1.  I’m afraid you really don’t know what you’re talking about if you think that Ryp isn’t one of the better artists available today.

  2. It’s the same art that all of Avatar books get. It looks like those comics with Jason or Freddy that Wildstorm was doing a few years ago. I do abstolutely hate the art in this book and stand by it.

  3. That’s probably due to the fact that a lot of the art in the top books for Avatar are by Ryp.

  4. Art is subjective. Let’s try to remember that.

  5. I guess I don’t read enough Avatar books to get sick of this art style.

  6. I think my biggest problem is the gore. It wouldn’t be as horrible if it wasn’t for the way they draw blood and tissue. It might be poor coloring or something, but especially here, with the backbone, it just looked aweful to me.

and Simmons, I am constantly disappointed by Avatar books. They get great creators, Ellis, Ennis, Moore, and some how just put out the most bland and banal comics I’ve ever seen.

  7. Seriously? I can see not liking the story. I’m very ho hum on it myself. The art is exceptional.

  8. Hmm, I actually love this.  Loved Black Summer, too.
