I have never picked up an issue of Ms. Marvel but I find her interesting in the Avengers books and this issue had the soon-to-be-ubiquitous Infiltration banner on the cover so I decided to pick this up.   Am I glad I did because this was a really fun book.

Essentially, Tony Stark has discovered that there are TWO Ms. Marvels running around and a hunt for the skrull imposter begins.  Carol basically gets caught in a compromising position with S.H.I.E.L.D.’s crosshairs pointing squarely at her.  Aside from this, much of the issue focusses on Carol’s personal life.  This is where my enjoyment of the series lies since having 22 pages of just Carol allows for the character treatment she just doesn’t get in other books.  The balance of Ms. Marvel and Carol Danvers is handled nicely by Brian Reed.

Having read the Circle (hope that it comes back in the near future),  Captain Marvel, Spider-Woman: Origins and NA: Illuminati, I was already aware that Brian Reed has skills.  His scripts are always fun and are well-paced.  The art is courtesy of Adriana Melo who I am not familiar with but her art is amazing.  Ron Frenz also draws two beautiful and important flashback scenes here and the nostalgic look really complements the story Reed is telling.

All in all, an awesome book that I for one will have to start picking up each month.

  1. I did enjoy the Ron Frenz flashback stuff, but then, I’m always a sucker for that sort of stuff.
It seems to be happening more and more in stories and i’m digging it,
I read this issue a couple days ago, and I also just picked it up for the first time, but other then the Frenz stuff and some Skrull intrigue, i don’t really REMEMBER the personal Carol Danvers plot…I remember finding it sort of lackluster but maybe that’s just because I haven’t found my "IN" for this series, and after a couple issues I’ll be more invested in the characters..
