I debated about this issue for a long while in my comic shop this afternoon.  I just couldn’t decide if my already destroyed wallet could really handle another title.  But then I remembered Spencer talking about the book on a video show the guys did, and of course, the size of the issue didn’t hurt either.  With all those pages, this had to be something interesting, right?  Well, I can safely say that I enjoyed this issue immensely, and while I haven’t walked away from it with an overwhelming “wow” feeling, I can tell that this is a fresh series with some real promise and an impressionable first issue.  As far as an introductory issue goes, this is pulled off without a hitch.  Each character is unique, and this was played up in each of the unique ways that we got to meet them.  Those were just fine examples of some of the interesting storytelling that is going on in this issue, and it feels fresh and fun as you read it.  I like the air of mystery surrounding this place, and it’s obvious that whatever is going on at the school is devious.  Spencer and company have definitely got me interested enough to check out the next issue, and if the quality is maintained, I think that Image could have another big hit on their hands.  I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the great art by Joe Eisma.  His style is clean and a little loose, which gives it a unique look.  I think it’s going to be a really great match for this style of story because he will be able to pull off both the talking heads portions as well as some of the more fantastical elements.
