Usually I’d write a re-cap and do a more point by point review.
However, I’m short for time. But I do want to tell you about this.

I’m impressed! This book went from good to great this month. The art
helps but I think Benson worked to get the character in a place he
wanted it. This Marc Spector in Mexico is good stuff. Khonshu takes a
backseat for a change. Marc seems to be gaining in confidence and
self-esteem and the down to earth crime story angle works really well
for the ex-mercenary. I really like that Benson is digging into that.
It works very well with the art and it’s breathes much needed fresh air
in the title. I think this arc is very successful at saving the
character from depression. Spector is still cranky but he’s no longer
whimpering. He’s becoming a hero again. And Benson has performed the
transformation gradually and very believably.

I see this as a respectful reboot. Benson actually takes the character
in a different direction than the previous writer but uses that
writer’s material as a springboard. He didn’t hit the reset button, he
massaged the existing story into what he wanted it to become.

If you didn’t like Moon Knight before, this is probably a good place to
give the title another shot. New artist, new direction. But for us who
have been following all along are now rewarded. I’m really happy I
stuck with this. It’s been great watching Marc grow!

Story: 5 - Excellent

  1. Great Khonshu, the art in this book too my breath away, if only because it itself is such a breath of fresh air.
