So, i just finished “Mighty Avengers #19”. Either this was the worst issue of the “Avengers” SI flashbacks/crossovers, or even I’M getting tired of them. The best thing about this issue? The “Next Issue” page that at least HINTS we’re going to see the ACTUAL Mighty Avengers next issue.

My guess is that “Secret Invasion”, “Mighty Avengers”, “Civl War: Avengers Disassembled”, “New Avengers”, and “Avengers: Disassembled” have all been one long convoluted excuse for Bendis to put together an Avengers team of (at least) Iron Man, a reborn Thor, the new Captain America, a new Captain Marvel, and others. Which would be cool, I’ll grant you… but damn, we’ve taken a long road there.

In total, I have completely loved about half of the SI/Avengers issues, but the last two (this one and the House of M story in New Avengers), have left me wondering “Why?” Ultimately, it feels like this story is really too big with not enough meat. It’s like we’ve run out of story before we’ve run out of issues. I really hope this whole thing ends strong, because otherwise I’ll end up being severely disappointed. If this craps out completely, it may be time for Marvel to walk away from the events for awhile, and it will be the first time I’ve ever been disappointed by Bendis, personally. This whole crossover had so much potential, and it felt like it was going to be just epic in terms of scope and ramifications, and right now (I hate to say it) I think it’s running on fumes. I have faith, but it’s getting tested right now, I must admit. Fingers crossed!

  1. Bendis is really scraping the bottom of the barell with these issues

ah slight polish on a story that has already been told

    nothing new at all
