It would be real easy to dismiss this as a Ben Templesmith wannabe artist working on a story that brings to mind Steve Niles.  All the right pieces are in place.  The photoshop techniques, the borderline realistic/cliche horror movie dialog.  Four pages in, I thought this comic was headed for the Do Not Pull list, but then…then the story gets in gear, and it’s fantastic.  A spooky psychological horror story that, and here was the dangerous cliche territory focuses on a man and the daughter he is working at estranging.

I think what ended up making me enjoy this was that it skirted so close to trite at the beginning and then ratcheted up the action sooner than I expected.  At five issues, I’m completely sold on this title.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. cool. good to know.

  2. Have you ever read the prequels to Southland Tales or Surrogates.  Same guy does the art on that.  I thought those books were done by Templesmith as well until I looked at the cover.

  3. Just an FYI, I just heard an interview with both of these creators and they said that if this does well it could go the way of Criminal.  Where they would run 4-5 issue series on different parts of the world while this happens.  This was my POTW and I cannot wait for more to see what happens next.

  4. Great review. I loved this book! More please.
