First, don't freak out when I say this issue was a little bit of a letdown.  It was a letdown in the sense that, say, I was hyping this to be The Dark Knight and it was only Batman Begins.  That I was expecting to get a million dollars and I only got 950,000.  Knowing Geoff Johns as I do, and anticipating Black Adam, I pretty much expected this issue to cure cancer.  What I got, though, was a very solid first issue of an arc, and some interesting groundwork for where the JSA is going.  It seems everyone is downsizing these days, and the JSA is no exception.  I'm ok with that.  Johns can juggle many characters, but he won't be on this book much longer.  And even if he was staying, I'm certainly ok with a more focused roster.  Aside from that, there were several great "moments" here.  Black Adam finally getting his hands on Faust was every bit as cathartic for the reader as it was for the character.  Billy not being able to access his powers was a great callback to Black Adam: The Dark Age, and really made me smile.  And the panel with Starman?  Subtlly brilliant humor.  I laughed for a full minute before I was ready to turn the page.  I also fully appreciate the seeds of doubt sewn in the story, as I don't think Isis is acting quite like herself.  I really think there's more to all of this than meets the idea, and I trust with Johns that that is usually the case.  I guess my only problem, besides how much I built this up in my head, was Ordway's art style.  Ok, yes.  He's entirely appropriate for the feel of this title.  His layout and his art itself is fine.  I just don't like the style, and I know I'm in the minority.  Anyway, it looks like we're in for a great arc with several twists on the way.
