I basically dropped this book after the first Injustice League arc, thinking that I wouldn't read this book again. After enjoying issue #20 based on Conor's recommendation, I decided to give McDuffie and this book another shot. The first ten pages of this issue featured some amusing dialogue between the Trinity in their new private "Star Chamber." The back and forth of the dialogue between Superman and Batman, as well as some of the rare poses and facial expressions that Batman displayed in this issue really put a grin on my face. My favorite panels so far are:
Page 4, Panel 3 (lower right): Batman covering his face with his hand while making a comment about their new secret meeting room.
Page 6 Panel 4: Batman's grin as he reveals the evolution of Vixen's powers to Wonder Woman.
I never knew of The Human Flame before this issue, but I like the way McDuffie writes up the narration from his point of view. The JLA members each had their moments where in we see things from their point of view in this book or another. It's refreshing to read the story from the villain's perspective once in awhile, especially for villains like this guy who reminds me of CatmanĀ pre-Villains United.
I'm not sure if I like the way Pacheco draws Diana, but the rest of the book's art was quite good. I wouldn't mind if he permanently replaced Benes on the book's art chores, even though Benes' art is the only reminder I have left of Meltzer's run which I love.
Overall, the book has me excited again for both the next issue and Final Crisis. If the rest of McDuffie's issues read like this, then it would leave me a very satisfied JLA-reader.
