This is what the Justice League books should be and then some. The art was great and the story was DARK. If the first arc showed us the meteoric rise of the shining JL, this arc is showing the chinks in the armor - the human side of the JL. The snapshots of each hero's private past perfectly portrayed the JLs common theme: isolation. Even among like beings, the members of the JL are still haunted and defined by their isolated past. Throw in a scene where Steve Trevor gets the living s*** tortured out of him, and you see a different, much darker tone emerging. Johns made a smart move by splitting the team up in this issue. It gets chaotic when you have six heroes all fighting for center stage and this should be reserved for large scale battles. The Cyborg-Batman-Superman team-up in Arkham had some really strong action and the Green Lantern-Flash-WW team up brought some comedic levity to a very dark issue (gritty opening, brutal torture, etc.) Strongly recommend. p.s. Shazam! continues to be AWESOME
