I'm going to start off by saying this is the first EVER Iron Man book I've read. Also, the only reason Irredeemable #5 is not my pick is that I haven't read it yet. I'm afraid to before I read the first for which have been eluding me for quite some time.
I loved it. At first when I flipped through it at my LCS I was unsure. It seemed a little too cartoony to me. Just so turns out that worked perfectly with the story.
To summarize some basic points of the plot line quick, Tony Stark has moved to LA and is no longer making weapons. As expected, his company is not doing so well..... Tony has just finished a non-weapon suit for rescue and defense. Some shit goes down and lets just say Tony is not in a very fun position.
Being a relatively DC oriented guy I had no idea who this Joe Caramagna was. Let me tell you. He did a great job. The story kept me interested through the whole issue and let me tell you, the ending? Totally unexpected. Joe did a great job of putting a more focused and serious twist on Tony, while still keeping that playboy persona. I think my favorite moment in the book is when Ms. Potts is giving him his messages and he tells her to throw them all away but changes his mind and keeps only the one from some girl named Tiffany who will be in town. It's simple but gave me a good laugh.
The art wasn't mind blowing but it was fun (which I think was a general theme for me with this pick). Craig Rousseau did an excellent job of portraying emotion in the faces and I really like his take on the Iron Man suit. It almost gave me a feeling like it was drawn for younger kids. I like it though. I like it a lot.
I'm going to be quick with this part but the cover...... oh.... my.... god. The cover was almost the only reason I picked this up. All I'll say is Skottie Young kicked this cover's ass. I almost wish they had a rating on her just for the covers. Get on that Josh.... or Ron.... or Connor.... whoever does the most technical work on the site.
Overall, this comic was a lot of fun and I'm glad I picked it up. I am definitely going to finish this 4 issue series and I'm hoping I won't be disappointed by the last three.
Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good

WTF. Sorry it all ran together. It was in paragraphs when I typed it…..
