How is it that Mike Mignola can write so many Hellboy stories and have them all be so consistently brilliant? This time Hellboy gets involved with vampires in a small village and learns about their history; Mignola seems right at home, particularly when following the recent Baltimore mini-series. His concept of vampires feels original and frightening and works well against the Hellboy character and his world. The art by Scott Hampton is astounding; wonderfully constructed and perfectly paced, working with the story to create a powerful and engaging tale. These two-issue stories are always a delight, and the next issue will surely be just as good as the first.
