This was exceptional!

The dynamics between Quill and his Dad are quite compelling. Lots of reasons for Son to rebel against his father’s empire. Yet, it is clear by the storytelling there are mysteries being kept from his Son that will someday soon reveal his Dad’s true nature — whether he’s a good guy or bad guy. As it stands, his Dad’s decision-making appears to be quite deliberate, and intended to position his Son. To his Son’s detriment or his safety is still up in the air.

Very well done, Bendis!! I’m not much of a writer, but I can imagine how difficult it must be to transact the deeper elements of the various character plots in a tight venue, like in a 22-page comic. And yet, 2 issue in and…

Several comments have come up regarding Bendis’s “tired” writing. While his Avengers run really emphasizes that point, his run on Ultimate Spiderman and so far on this and All-New X-Men say otherwise. I guess it’s fair to say he needs to get a fresh palate of characters now and then to exercise his full potential.

I hope I’m not alone in saying how enjoyable this is.
