Sweet, sweet sci-fi swashbuckling.
That’s what I want out of a space-book, and that’s exactly what this issue gave me.

As the team takes on an alien invasion-force over London, the camera rotates to each member, giving us a gloriously kick-ass showcase of who these cats are and what they’re capable of. The odds are stacked against them, but the Guardians are having a blast, which made it easy for me to enjoy the ride as well.

Hats-off to Bendis for injecting a healthy dose of humor into the mix through the use of what I guess is Rocket Raccoon’s new catch-phrase, Space Lord’s frustration, and a sequence depicting Groot’s dramatic recovery from last issue’s action.

I also now understand why Iron Man is in this book. He’s here to provide an “everyman” POV, helping readers unfamiliar with The Guardians Of The Galaxy (like myself) to ease into this fun world. And it IS fun. It’s like old-school Star Wars, only I actually don’t know what’s going to happen next.

My next goal: To track down some old trades and read up on these guys. Right now, one issue a month doesn’t feel like enough.
