Like many, my interest in this title has waned in the last year or so. I eventually dropped off after the New 52, but came back for the last few issues because I'm still fascinated by Black Hand, and while this annual was good at times, it leaves me with no real interest in continuing. Here's why: like many in the comments, I just feel like I'm over it. We've been on this same story line (basically) for the past four or five years, along with the same characterization. And I think a large part of that problem is, where as great current sci-fi or fantasy comics (Saga, The Manhattan Projects, Prophet, Guardians of the Galaxy a few years back) create a massive world and suggest an epic scope with many players, this has constricted its world. It was massive and epic during the build up to and during Blackest Night, but now it just seems repetitive. "Guardians! What jerks those guys! Rinse, repeat." And the "Third Army" is just a repetition of OMACs from Infinite Crisis, and Darkseid's plan from Final Crisis. The Guardian's mission to remove free will from the universe is just simply them imitating Darkseid in his quest for the Anti-Life equation. The storyline is as predictable: I'm pretty sure that the current Guardians will be trapped in the Chamber of Shadows, and those ancient Guardians who were trapped there before will take their place, then eventually become jackasses, and rinse and repeat. The designs of the Third Army are just uninteresting. Even Hal & Sinestro's "deaths" left me feeling "meh", they're obviously going to come back, and two major characters dying in an 1.5 inch by 5 inch panel, on a page with, what, 9 of those panels, seemed such an anti-climatic, meaningless storytelling device. My dis-interest in this issue, the current state of and future of GL was crystallized when I realized that this issue was created by the same people who did GL Rebirth and the Sinestro Wars prologue. Those left me in awe of the scope and world created. This, even though the writing was ok, and the art was very nice at times, just left me feeling like how I imagine it must feel to ride a rollercoaster one hundred times in a row; it used to be thrilling, now it's just kinda the same route over and over again.
