What truly horrible art. I really hate Tan’s work in this issue.
Everything seemed flat and bland. There was no real sense of the great
space opera that Johns is trying to put forth. It’s a real shame since
the cover made it look like there was going to be this epic and awesome
fight. The story was okay. The Blackest Night’s free comic preview
spoiled how Agent Orange’s power works so what might have been a really
cool reveal ended up being a ho hum that’s nice moment. I understand
that Kyle and Guy are getting their screen time over in GLC but John
needs more face time. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how
utterly ridiculous Star Sapphire’s costume looks. I don’t blame Tan for
that though It’s always been stupid. I was utterly unimpressed by the
back up story. Johns used to be really impressive with his ability to
make us care for even a minor character in a back up story in 4 panels
or less but here I didn’t garner any sort of a damn about Glommulus or
whatever his name is. 6/10

Touche’.
It seems evident that the point of the origin story is to indicate the instability of the orange light due to Larfreeze’s apparant talking-to-himself. Unfortunately it was actually more engaging than the main story.
