The cliff hanger at the end of the last issue definitely left me curious for this next installment, but I’m a bit disappointed with it.  This book continues to waver for me.  There are parts of each issue that I love, and then there are parts that I just can’t seem to like.  For instance, in this issue, I found the origin of The Queen to be really intriguing, and I’m finding her to be a more and more interesting villain (even if Ollie seems to be completely unaware of her).  But on the other hand, Ollie recovers from a mortal wound in this mysterious forest with a mysterious historical figure and it all seems a little bit too…convenient.  I don’t mind some of the more fantastical elements of the story, but in a way, I feel like they’re beyond Ollie.  He’s always been a street level character.  I think the story would be much more interesting with him battling for the streets of Star City against The Queen.  And maybe, someday, the story will get there.  I’m still interested, in a way, with what’s happening in the forest, and the art continues to be serviceable.  I just wish that Krul could find a vibe for the story that fits more with Ollie’s character.  As of now, this is merely an Average read for me.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good

  1. I think your assessment is fair.  Yeah, it was awfully convenient that there happened to be a way to heal Ollie the moment he’s been fatally wounded.  And, if you’ve been shot in the head with an arrow, and specifically in the frontal lobe, do you think you’d be able to have coherent thoughts beyond "Nnnnehhh…"?  I don’t think so.  That said, I am also curious about the forest and will probably keep buying GA for a while.  Damn my curiosity!
