My review of this book is probably a little more optimistic then the others being that I am a die-hard Batman fan, but I still didn't absolutely love it. It had some dull moments, some interesting moments, and a couple of parts I really enjoyed before the short thing was all the way over.
A character whom I'm not too familiar with even though I have been reading the Bat-books off and on for the last two decades. Her name is The Veil or some shit. She jibber jabbers about some crap I could care less about.
Then things get a tiny bit more interesting when we move on to Harvey Bullock on the trail of the new Azreal. I read the Azreal BFTC tie ins and was slightly amused so I actually did care a little bit about this part of the story. Harvey is a solid character, and his new partner is pretty cute. I have a very small interest in how all this is going to pan out wherever the next installment of this story ends up being that there are like seven new Bat-books coming out not including Confidential.
Then we are moving over to the Leslie Thompkins story. She is about to open a new health clinic for poor folks in Gotham City now that she has returned from wherever she ran off to after No Mans Land. I'll be damned if I remember. She has a bunch of rival gang members who are there to do community service helping her out. Some dickhead steals a whole case of painkillers to flip somewhere so some dude named Mortimer Drake shows up to save the day. Leslie Thompkins is one thing, she is uninteresting enough, but I could really honestly not give two shits about this Mortimer guy. I'm guessing he found his way into Gotham City in the pages of Robin volume three somewhere? I don't know and I could care less then I know. I only read Robin when they did tie ins to the bigger Bat-stories so you could see why this story was a bit dull.
Nightwing and Robin pull up in a limo (not in costume) to take Leslie to the ball like she is Cinderella or something. This artist most suck because I couldn't even tell that these guys were Dick Grayson, who is Batman now, and Tim Drake!
Oh great! The next part of the story is about Stephanie Brown aka Spoiler. YAWN!! She catchs some not so popular rogue bad girl type trying to rob the people in the party while talking some jibber jabber that is even harder to understand then The Veil before Spoiler saves the day. Then she has a little chat with Tim Drake. Turns out Tim is leaving Gotham City and this will probably turn out to be what is going to happen in the Red Robin series that is hopefully starting soon so the whole entire Spoiler section wasn't a total waste of ink and glossy paper!
And finally we meet the lovely Vicki Vale. Vale is a character who has been with the Batman mythos nearly as long as Bruce and Dick theirselves and I am quite glad she is back because she sure saved Gotham Gazette Batman Alive from being a stink rag. I'm not going to spoil this part for you because it is the only story in here that's remotely worth your two dollars and 99 cents (plus seven percent sales tax in NJ)...
Bring on Batman And Robin #1!
