I wasn’t planning on getting this book, mostly because
it looked like it would be mindless filler and utterly forgettable, however, I
saw one page of the Vicki Vale story over on 4chan so I was willing to give it
a shot.

I wish I’d have stayed with my first impression.

 Bookended between
thick stilted narration of the “spirit of Gotham” character that I think either
Fabian or Denny O’Neil created earlier this year, we got some slice of life
stories of the supporting cast that were as cookie cutter as they could be without
actually having gum drop buttons and a chocolate chip nose.

The quality of the
stories ranged a great deal, which is surprising because they were all written
by Fabian. The Spoiler story was probably my favorite, but that’s because I’ve
been a huge fan of Steph’s since Dixon created her and Chriscross is my
favorite underused artist. The rest, however were either bland (Dr. Tompkins)
or just unbelievable (Harvey/Azrael’s supporting cast).

Actually I do want to
focus on Harvey for a second. His story read like a recap of Law and Order.
There was no drama, there was no reason for the character to crack, but he did
and in 3 pages.

The art was decent for the most part. Nothing really was that
offensive or that impressive.
