All the info on the web (including DCComics.com) attributes this title to Paul Dini, but this issue is credited to Scott Lobdell.  Not sure if it was a last minute change, or if the third issue was intended to be a change of author.  Either way, I enjoyed the hell out of this issue.

While continuing to follow the storyline from the previous issues, as well as Battle For The Cowl, this issue is focused entirely on Ed Nigma, formerly The Riddler.  And it’s one of the best character studies of a Batman “villain” that I’ve read in quite a while.

Nigma has been an incredbly complex character since Dini retired him from crime in Detective and put him in the private investigator game.  And this issue is filled with his big brain in constant competition with the new Dick Grayson Batman.

March’s cover is fantastic, but I”m also loving his interiors.  His white space silhouettes are used sparingly and to great effect here.  I also like the new villains in this issue.

I’m curious to see if Dini picks back up with the next issue

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. kool, can’t wait to check this out in about three hours and 20 or so minutes!

  2. I just read this.  It was very good and I was surprised.  I like the direction that Lobdell is taking the Riddler.
