“Gotham City Sirens” has really caught my attention. As a fan of the Batman books, I love what writer Peter Calloway has done with a great group of characters. The patients are literally running Arkham after the previous events in the book and this book explores two budding factions within the Arkham chaos.

I really like Calloway’s storyline and particularly enjoy his inclusion of numerous Batman characters and villians. There are several dynamics at work within this issue and most are interesting. There’s plenty of solid dialogue, funny banter, and sometimes bloody violence. It’s not a silly or pointless story. Calloway has plans for this arc and I like it’s direction so far. Oh, and it also features the Joker.

I have to say, I’m a big fan of Andres Guinaldo and Lorenzo Ruggiero’s work on this book. It’s slick and detailed and is a near perfect fit for this title. There are some great panels in this issue and I loved the general layout of the pages. I did think some of the depictions of the Arkham chaos was needlessly bloody and a little distracting. But overall the art is really, really good.

This issue surprised me. It’s a nice story that has the Batman feel that I love. It’s an issue that will be overlooked by many but I think it’s well worth picking up. It’s not perfect but it’s a fun read for Batman fans.

Story: 4 - Very Good
