I am coming into this as some one who watched the cartoon as a kid, but has had almost no exposure to the Joes since then. This was a decent reintroduction to the team for me, and set up the status quo for the IDW line. The base for the team is revealed, and a power struggle is taking place between Duke and Scarlett. I really like how mysterious and dangerous COBRA is in this series. So far the Joes know next to nothing about them. Snake Eyes is given a great intro as well, and it is used to help deepen the mystery as to what shape COBRA will take in this new Joe world. The issue is a bit slow, but it is necessary to get the book up and running.
The art is fantastic, and really fits the book in my opinion. The military tech seems cutting edge to me, but also based on reality to some degree to lend it some authenticity. The COBRA gear on the other hand is even more futuristic, and makes them seem to have a leg up on the Joes. This issue set the stage, and has made me ready to yell out Yo JOE! again.
