“Flashpoint: The Reverse Flash” is probably my biggest dissappointment of the week. Not only are there issues with the story and the art, but it doesn’t feel like a Flashpoint story.

This issue is a quick read. I was finished with it in a flash (no pun intended) and was left wondering what was the point. It’s basically a look back at Eobard Thawne’s various attempts to destroy Barry Allen in order to become the one and only Flash of the 25th century. That’s it. Even for those unfamiliar with the history, it’s hard to see much satisfaction here. Scott Kolins is a good writer but this just doesn’t work.

The art dissappointed me more than the story. Joel Gomez’s work here isn’t my cup of tea. In places it almost looks like doodling. I think I understand what he was aiming for but it really falls flat for me. It’s hard to distract from an incredibly brief story but this art manages to do it.

When it comes down to it, this book really feels pointless. The Flashpoint minis have been pretty solid overall but this issue is far from solid. Luckily this is only a one-shot (even though it says “First Issue of Three”) because there’s no way I would follow it to a second issue.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 1 - Poor

Comments

  1. completely agree- awful book on all acounts

  2. Art was simply awful in some panels.  It actually kind of pissed me off because I felt like I had been sold fan sketches in lieu of an actual professional comic book at times.

  3. Well said. I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing at times.
