What do you get when you take classic monsters and the script to the “Dirty Dozen” mixed with a touch of time travel? Well it could be a B movie or a comic book. Thanks DC for making it a comic book.
It was fast paced. Actually it was all over the place. With only 60 pages total to tell the story it has to be. Not much origin given in this issue. A lot of stuff could have used expanding on. But it really doesn’t matter. This is a VERY retro styled book in concept and execution. Aside from the more polished art it read like it could have been done in 1975. But not in a bad way.
This is a “comic book 101” example. Much like the books people pulled off spinner racks and read on a lunch break back when people did that. It gives you a lot of entertainment and while it does continue, you don’t feel the need to reread it when you get the whole series for it to make sense. Lemire has a knack for this.
The art is very good. It is consistent and detailed.
For me this book was a 5/5 but I doubt the majority would see it that way. But I cannot imagine anyone who can suspend disbelief not giving it a solid 4.
