I love Aquaman. I will always buy an Aquaman book, and the idea that a war between Aquaman and Wonder Woman could form the political backdrop to the Flashpoint event is alright by me. Sadly, however, this book is all a bit of a muddle. Here, Tony Bedard tries to explain Arthur Curry's motivation for laying waste to most of Europe by retelling his origin story. The trouble is that Aquaman has so many previous (and conflicting) origin stories, it's hard to care about yet another one. Away from the flashbacks, the Amazons and Atlanteans continue their conflict by systematically abusing the powers of various members of the Markov family, but at least we get the set up of a showdown between Aquaman & Wonder Woman in the final panel. Art is OK, but Vincent Cifuentes draws really terrible children. The thirteen year old Arthur Curry looks about half that age, and Arthur as a baby has boobs, for goodness sakes! Like other Flashpoint tie-ins, this idea had so much promise, but the execution leaves much to be desired.
