In the highlands of Scottland dead Cthulhu lies dreaming. Heh, heh.

In a move I saw coming last issue Millar’s Fantastic Four run takes a turn for the Lovecraft-y. I think my knowledge of this pay-off allowed me to enjoy the previous issue more than other readers and I think this little two-parter paid off fairly well. There’s not much to say about this issue other than its beat-’em-up fun at its finest. The FF do battle with a squid-y elder god and Sue smashes it with the church. Not much else really need be said. It didn’t wow me with origenality, but as a omage to pulp horror-action you could do worse. This story arc could have really delved into what Reed would do against a creature of madness as a scientist, but that’s not what Millar was going for. In short this was a nice filler between arcs.

But the thing is, can I talk about Bryan Hitch a little bit here? This issue killed as far as art goes. Two-page splashes galore of the FF crew bashing the mighty elder god over the Scottish village. Art-wise this issue was epic with a capital E, P, I, and C. It really just proves how wonderful a team Millar and Hitch make.

For new readers I’d suggest waiting until the next issue or waiting for Hickman’s run. This issue is probably not going to redeem the run to haters, but it won’t disapoint monthly collectors either.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
