In the age of constant reboots , outing of superheroes and in the case of Avengers vs X Men , just plain bad writing , its hard to find that special something , that makes you want to continue reading comics . Well for me this title does have that special something , but I can’t really put my finger on it . Its goofy in a really bizarre way and it is unlike any other book out there right now . This would have been a Vertigo book back in the eighties . China Mieville pens the story of a nice down on his luck loser who stumbles onto a phone booth with an old roatry dial phone . For those of you who have no idea what this is …go ask your grandparents . The dial when used turns him into a random superhero , for a time .Super heroes with names like Shamanticore , Pelican Army , Hole Punch and my favorite Iron Snail . The rest of the story is very mysterious and it is taking its time to unfold , a welcome relief given the frantic pace of most books today .
The art is like the story dark and strange but for some odd reason I love it .I am not familiar with Mateus Santolouco but I am interested in seeing more of it .
This book may not be for everyone but if you want a wierd change of pace this is for you .

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
