After a few pages of reading “The Dark”‘s newest installment for the New 52, two things were noticed:

1.) The artowrk by Santolouco was spot on for setting the mood of despair and the supernatural.
2.) The odd writing sense and misplaced vocabulary in the dialogue had me scratching my head over why a better spell check wasn’t invested in.

Overall, this comic is a decent start and a good #1 issue that isn’t hard to follow. The hero (for lack of a better term) is someone that is easily identifiable and the plot can be seen all the way to the end. I just wish this issue would have taken a few more chances with a dark sense of comedy with the hero’s new personas. As it stands, this is worth looking at (if not for the artwork alone), but more has to be done for Dial H in order to create a new and dedicated fan base for this series.
