HOLLA ATCHA BOY!

The team of Daniel Way and Paco Medina have created comic gold in the pages of Deadpool–in every sense of the words.

Only five pages into the issue I needed to put the book down and catch my breath after a laughing fit. This book is the funniest comic I’ve read since…since….well I cannot recall an issue of a mainstream comic that has made me laugh this much…ever!

By far the top moment of the book is a self-referential pot-shot at Rob “The Man of a Million Made-Up Muscles” Leifeild. “Who’s Rob?” The comedy wasn’t sophomoric or toilet humor, it was simply a great character being who he is. Deadpool is who he is, he’s “The Merc With the Mouth” and he shines brighter than ever in these pages.

Besides the hilarity and ridiculousness, there is a pretty unique plot as it pertains to the Secret Invasion storyline. The best thing that can be said about the story is that it makes sense. After reading issue one, and pondering the turn at the end of the issue, I only thought to myself “yeah, I can see that.” Again at the end of this issue I felt the same sentiment. Although, admitedly I wish there was at least one issue of Deadpool where he was just tearing up some of the b-listers and c-listers of the Marvel U.

This week’s Deadpool book was the most enjoyable comic that I have read in months. The only downer was the Clayton Crain cover that made Wade look like Ghost Rider sans the fire. One can only hope that Way / Medina stay with this book, so long as they do, I will.
