I was relieved to see Doom glaring menacingly at Daredevil on the issue’s cover.

Though the specter of Doom portends danger for our hero, it promises good things for readers, especially after a somewhat listless run of recent issues (excepting the excellent issue 12).

And Doom might just be enough – judging by the action in issue 14 – to inject a little life in the Omega Drive story line, which has been underwhelming, at best. Issues 10.1, 11 and 13 (including the “Omega Effect” crossover issues of Avenging Spider-Man 5 and Punisher 10) had me worried that we’d seen the best of what has been a great Waid run.

That said, the most compelling part of issue 14 – much like that other recent strong entry, issue 12 – deals not with Daredevil but with Matt Murdock’s life and his relationship with Foggy Nelson. We know Matt has cobbled his life back together, but can the long-suffering Foggy take anymore? And if not, does Matt’s life unravel again?

Those are the questions that will have me coming back for issues 15 and 16 and on and on.

Samnee’s art – particularly in action-packed and tightly-focused panels – excellent.
