I only picked this up off the rack because of the title, probably like a lot of other people did, too. Just the same, there wasn’t a book that caught me more off guard this week than this one did. What I was expecting was 22 pages built off of one clunky joke – and that one clunky joke is certainly here, as this is in fact a book about someone who is simultaneously a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking – but along with that one thin idea comes a simple yet emotive art style along with some unexpectedly sharp and inventive storytelling that reads to me like Heinlein writing The Umbrella Academy.
