Having adored the debut issue last month, I was unpleasantly surprised at how little this book entertained me. The first problem was the intro scene. Winick takes the gold that was given at the end of the last issue (which could have and should have stood on its own) and makes it even dirtier, sloppier, and less characteristic of both characters (but especially Batman). The last issue was done with finesse. This was done in classic Winick style, without respect for the characters he's writing. Apart from that, the story is so-so, and the art is beautiful. The story ends with a scene of brutal sadism that screams "this is an exploitation book!" I'm dropping two titles of the new 52 each month, and this is dangerously close to the bottom. However, one thing this book did do for me is make it clear that Batman's world pre-52 does not exist now. This may be a fact that you are all aware of, but I was slow in coming to the realization.
