Like a lot of people, I missed Casanova the first time around. I don’t think I had been collecting comics at the time, and even if I had I wouldn’t have thought to pick up this quirky little comic. But now Matt Fraction is one of the most popular writers at Marvel. With an Eisner under his belt, Mr. Fraction decided to clean up the old indie book he did with the Gabriel Ba. So the question is, is this re-release justified? In my opinion: absolutely. This is an oddball book with great art sensibilities with a kooky story that may take a couple of reads to let it sink in, but the time taken to savor this book is fully worth it. This adventure follows Casanova Quinn in some psychedelic multiversal hijinks that are so quirky and fun that recapping the plot won’t do it any justice. Matt Fraction’s writing is surreal and smart which is perfectly married to Gabriel Ba’s art. The new color shines with it’s simplicity and seems to be a welcome addition to the book. Also the backup with art by Fabio Moon is a welcome delving into one of the issue’s side characters. All in all this is a book that I recommend to any sci-fi fan an certainly to fans of the Moon brothers’ work. This is a great comic and a serious pick of the week contender for me.
