This was just delightful.
I'll admit I had absolutely no idea who any of these characters were at the beginning of this series, with the exception of Blade that is (thank you New Line). Yet, Paul Cornell has really found a nice way to tell me a lot about each of them without making it feel like a history lesson. Plokta had a lot to do with this, showing each character their heart's desire; Wisdom - Kitty Pryde is dead?? I haven't gotten into X-men yet, I don't have the strength for such a daunting task quite yet. After first seeing Meggan in Plokta's dream world designed for Captain Britain, I hadn't the foggiest who this girl was and why she was important. In this issue all was made clear. I cared much less about the current story of her taking over hell and more about who this girl is, why she helped shape Captain Britain, and it was all there. The art in this issue was excellent. There is one page that is so reminiscent of the Dark Knight Returns, as Meggan and Captain Britain lie out for a picnic, that looks like it was ripped straight from the cover of a trashy romance novel, Much like when Clark and Bruce are riding horses through a field in TDKR. The back up story was also just fantastic. This may just be me, because I have a strong affinity for all things British. The Cricket game... I have no idea how cricket is played, but I absolutely delight in watching people that are really into it. That and watching Blade be a bowler; that made me chuckle. The art is different, but very fitting to this fun little back up. Even though Brian was drawn a bit like a transexual, Great characterization "Default Square Jawed Hero. From default square jawed country." Not my pick, but it really accomplished a lot in a fun way. I'll be missing this series very much... Even though they decided to price gauge the few fans they have with a 3.99 annual.
Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
