These Flashpoint titles are pushing some nostalgic buttons for me, and the second issue of CItizen Cold is no exception.

There was a pleasing (if brief) appearance of one of Wally West’s supporting cast (Poor Chunk!) and welcome roles for some of the lesser known Rogues like Tarpit and Fallout (Poor Lisa Snart!). I also liked how Kolins is using the Pied Piper to avenge Wally West’s murder last issue (although he too seems to die at Cold’s hand in the last few pages. Poor Pied Piper!).

The trouble with this story is that it’s very muddled. It’s moving far too fast and Len Snart is just becoming a psychopath, fighting Rogues, heroes and anyone else who gets in his way for no very clear reason.

Kolins’ much discussed new art style is growing on me very very slowly, with action sequences like Piper zooming off on his motorbike, Trixter flying in on his hoverboard or Snart giving the other Rogues both barrels of his freeze guns looking great. Static scenes of Iris West interviewing Citizen Cold, however, are simply dreadful.

In summary, an interesting premise but a real curate’s egg of a comic: good in parts.
