I wasn’t that impressed with “Flashpoint Citizen Cold” #1 but for some reason I decided to pick up the second issue. After reading it I quickly recognized the same flaws that plagued the first book.

The Rogues have escaped from Iron Heights Penitentiary each driven by their own reasons for revenge against Citizen Cold. It’s an interesting idea and it’s fun seeing Mirror Master put legs to their plan. But Scott Kolins’ story never goes beyond the coolness of the concept and it never feels that important in Flashpoint world. There is some good dialogue and a few good moments but it’s never as good as it feels it should be.

Adding to the book’s problems in Kolins’ underwhelming art. There are a few good panels but overall the issue looks bland and uninspiring. I also wasn’t impressed with the layouts which are generally unattractive. It’s mostly consistent with Kolins’ other work but it just doesn’t click for me here.

I’ve always loved the Captain Cold character so I was hoping this series would really produce. But we have two issues and I’ve yet to be drawn in by the story. Combined with subpar artwork and design and you have a Flashpoint book that falls short.
