Interesting juxtaposition between Dick and Damian here. Damian almost
sounded like Bruce in their back and forth, wonder if that was done on
purpose, where Damian's snide remarks were meant to sound like there was
some of his father's uptight wisdom in him, cus it almost seemed like the roles were
reversed here between Batman & Robin, with Dick sounding like his old Robin self, and Damian sounding like a precocious version of a future Batman to be.
Also thought it interesting that Bruce has seemed to gain a lot of insight upon his 'family,' like a different perspective now that he is on the outside looking in. I'm curious as to what Bruce's agenda is, as he seems to be operating under the radar, mysteriously announcing his return to only certain people at only certain times....what is his plan here with Tim, and why with Red Robin in particular, or is all this simply his easing his way back into the Bat family, observing the pieces from afar in an attempt to get a feel for everyone so as to better fit in and find his role rather than disrupting an already well-seasoned team. Like when a player in sports gets traded to an already successful team, you often hear those players say they just want to blend in, fit in and find their role without disrupting the chemistry of that team; feel that's what Bruce may be doing.
Have passed on prior works of Cliff Richard's, and wasn't particularly impressed with it on my first flip through of this book, but decided to give it a shot nevertheless, and I gotta say, I actually enjoyed his work on this, was a pleasant surprise that it sorta grew on me real quick as I read this book. My only critique about it is does that really look like Bruce? Looks more like Dick to me, or a Bruce that looks way too young.
Another interesting thing about this book was the way Vicki Vale was able to surmise Bruce wasn't Bruce after their meeting by the look in his eye and by his kiss, and was also able to deduce that Dick Grayson had become Batman! I mean she must be one damn smart cookie, but at the same time it did come off as a little more realistic in not following the tradition in comics of the most minimal of disguises, like a pair of glasses, being able to hide the secret identities of a superhero to all. Vicki Vale is an intriguing character to me actually, showing a bit of her own pychopathology in her obsessiveness with the identity of Batman.
Not diggin on Bruce's new stealth armor/suit btw, even though I am curious as to whether there is something interesting about how it provides him with certain JLA powers like Amazo (which is demonstrated on another Road Home one-shot), but was that the best they could do on the design of the suit, really?
