As a primer, Brightest Day #0 was damn interesting.
I'm curious now as to where all of the Twelve (sorry, JMS, but this book will actually finish) are headed in those flashes Deadman saw. What's Max Lord up to? Why is Mera about to kill Arthur? What are J'onn's plans for the once-dead Mars? Why were Zoom and Boomerang brought back at all? It feels like there is a plan in place and I can't wait for the endgame.
Johns has always been the long-form man, and I'm curious as to where he and Tomasi are planning on taking these characters over the next 25 weeks.
My only annoyance is that this wasn't just called #1. It's clearly going to be important for next week's issue. It's the first issue. Why not just call it #1?

When I got to the two page spread just before the end, my comment was exactly the same as the one Boston Brand made at the top of the next page. Damn, that as good.
I think it’s a #0 because not all of these characters will be followed in the main Brightest Day book. Only Aquaman, the Hawks, Firestorm, J’onn, and Deadman. The other characters will be in all those books they teased at the end of the issue. This issue was setting up Brightest Day, Generation Lost, Birds of Prey, Flash, Green Lantern, GLC, Green Arrow, Titans, and Justice League.
AH! Thanks for filling me in there, superchuck. Glad to hear Brightest will be keeping the characters I care about at least. Was hoping for a whole mystery featuring all of the returned twelve, but I can live. Ugh, I just typed that…
