All my praise for Tomasi recently goes out the window on this one.

The whole terrifying thing about the Black Lanterns has been that they get to you emotionally, and then destroy you quickly and utterly.  In this issue, they are like ineffectual holograms.  It’s as though they’re distractions for another, more powerful villain who’s waiting in the wings.

There is a really neat trick that Tomasi throws in near the end when Grayson and Drake are truly desperate to escape The Black Lanterns.  And in those final pages, the Black Lanterns appear badass again, but, if they were truly as ultimate evil pants shittingly terrifying, then the middle chunk of this book would have been two pages long instead of ten.

  1. Etrigan in action looked so cool. Betterif they had not shown Barbara revived and sitting around not getting help. Solid issue.
