Peter J. Tomasi was born to write Dick Grayson. Whether it is Dick's inner monologue or his mentoring of/bickering with Damian, this guy just gets the character. I think he is one of the great up and comers at DC and I can't get enough of his stuff (except maybe his Outsiders...that title is cursed).
      This mini sure is surprising me! I didn't really know where Batman would fit in this whole Zombie Blackest Night event. Batman, to me, was always at his best when the stories were rooted in reality. However, Tomasi has rooted this in reality. How would Batman deal with zombies and zombie villains at that too? The action beats are spot on and the inclusion of Commissioner Gordon and Barbara truly is genius. Also, hearing Alfred say "Richard" on the intercom made me giggle like a girl! Every character's voice sounded how it should. I am still on the fence about the inclusion of Deadman, but I am willingly to wait until the end of the mini to make a final decision. Seeing Tim's teary eyes when his parents show up was actually moving, considering Tim's whole back story with his parents. This contrasted with Dick's seemingly cold, calculated, and very batman-logic like reaction made it all the more powerful.
      Adrian Syaf is also amazing. I am surprised I have never heard of this guy. He definitely seems to be channeling Ivan Reis here. I really hope he gets an ongoing after this.
     This whole mini really makes me wonder why Judd Winnick and Tony Daniel are writing the Batman ongoing instead of Peter Tomasi...after all, Tomasi was writing Nightwing prior to the whole Batman Reborn event. A guy can always hope!
