Of all of the Before Watchmen books, this was the only one I was happy to pick up. Darwyn Cooke is the perfect choice for this project. His art work and use of the classic panel grids are fantastic. It feels like a golden or silver age book. Unfortunately there is not much story to tell. Instead of writing it as a classic get the gang together book its more of rehash of ideas from the text pieces in Watchmen and a little too safe. I will say this though, we get a great spotlight on Silhoutte which is why doing a Minutemen book is a great idea. DC should have just done titles for all of these characters individually and left the Watchmen alone.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Actually I thought the story was a little stronger than a 3, and there’s also expectations on the first issue being an introduction to this Minutemen group, which Cooke did very well. The first issue pulled me in enough to pick up the rest of this run, unless there’s a horrible goof up later, and even then, I’ll probably finish the ride.
