First thing I want to talk about in this story is about Adam Hughes’s art: When I opened this book I saw how the pages looked and the way the panels were formed, and it was like looking at an old school comic book that has been opened for the first time in maybe 40-50 years, yet the art was so crisp and clear it was BRILLIANT! Now, the story itself was also marvelous! Straczynski outdid himself. I feel like I understand a lot more about Dr. Manhattan. This story out of all of the Before Watchmen prequels is the one that will cause you to think and focus; it involves a lot of science and mystery, but we know that’s how Dr. Manhattan is and that’s why we love him! Like all the other characters in Before Watchmen we see his past when he was just Jon Osterman before the big test chamber accident that changed his life forever, as well as the aftermath: When he joined The Crimebusters, Laurie, break up with Janey and Jon’s father’s reaction and what he had to say about what Jon has become. Don’t miss out on this story!
“Boxes contain mysteries. Boxes are mysteries, until we open them. We can never really be sure what’s inside.” – Dr. Manhattan
Also don’t forget to read this week’s adventurous tale: Crimson Corsair!
Q: Now that all of the prequels have been released, which Before Watchmen title has been your favorite so far and why?
Art: 3 - Good
I liked this issue a lot more than I thought I would.
Fave of BW: Minutemen
Least Fave of BW: NiteOwl
Most Surprising: Silk Spectre (though I really shouldnt be surprised considering the talent–I guess I always thought Silk Spectre was the least interesting character in Watchmen)
Fave: Ozymandias or Nite Owl
Least Fave: Comedian
Most Surprising: Ozymandias – I was the least excited about it, but it far surpassed my expectations.
