With the last of the Watchmen entourage being released, Dr. Manhattan is everything I didn't enjoy about the Before Watchmen series. Page after page, panel after panel, I felt as if I was reading a commentary of everything I have already seen in the Watchmen mini-series. Over three-quarters of the comic is all panels I've seen in Watchmen. As far as story is concerned, Dr. Manhattan reminisces about anything from his gear toy (the gear creation on Mars), him getting stuck in the intrinsic field generator, to the first Crimebusters meeting. Even though most of the Dr. Manhattan story wasn't compelling, the scene with Mr. Osterman being told of his son's "death" was emotional. If only the entire book stuck with more emotional drives and Jon coping with his new self, this could have been more intriguing. This is called Before Watchmen for a reason, so why not branch off and show what these beloved characters were doing before they were the Watchmen. Out of all the Before Watchmen comics, Dr. Manhattan seems to hold onto more of the Watchmen story than anything original. It pains me to say this, because I was looking forward to this character the most. Anyways, DC's Before Watchmen is busting my balls, but they have me by the wallet and I'll be buying the next issue like the comic-junkie I am.
