WOW!

Everyone i know knows about this series right now. Ever since issue 1, I’ve been actively pushing people to read this book.  I can’t even count the number of times I’ve stated “If there is one book to read RIGHT NOW, it is Batman And Robin.” With that said…

If there is one book to read RIGHT NOW, it’s Batman And Robin.  From the first page, Quitely’s art grabs you by the edges of your mouth and forces a grin. Seriously…it’s uncontrollable. The perfect blend of realism, with water saturating Dick’s cowl, and the sketchiness that is Quitely’s mark.

The art in this book is phenomenal. It flows so perfectly as if your watching a movie, or in the case of these pages, a carnie fettish flick. Each panel has soooo much detail, yet when you look at it, it never becomes too much. Your never not focused on the main “point” or action. There aren’t much for backgrounds EXCEPT if you need to be noticing it. And all the characters are so detailed that it feels like this story is actually happening somewhere in the world.  One of my favorite things about Quitely’s art in this book is his way of doing environmental sound effects, and there are plenty here!

To piggy-back off the art, i think Alex Sinclair nails the colors…AGAIN. Even with Tan coming up next at bat, i think that as long as Sinclair stays on this title, it should have the same feel, much like artists come and go on Dardevil, yet the internals always scream DD.

Ok, so Quitely alone could carry a title…but Grant Morrison has done another brilliant job.  This book really reads differently than any other Batbook I’ve read. Why? Because Morrison wants you to know: DAMIAN IS 10 YEARS OLD!!!!!

Damian is a punk, but think about any 10 year old you know, put in these situations…especially on pages 6-7. I don’t like Damian at all, and would have loved to see him get beat down (again >=)   ) but this is some sick stuff here and i fucking love it.

I really feel like this arc was a Damian character piece. He evolved a bit at the end. I think the respect he demanded from Dick last issue, has been achieved. I feel like at the end of this issue Damian has realized that he’s made a lot of decisions that have had a significant impact on the current status of things, and I really don’t think he will be such a punk ass in issues to come because of it.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
